What is Choyhona ? In Central Asia, Choyhona stands for a "Tea Room". It's the place where people come to drink a cup of tea, maybe even eat some traditional food like “Pilav” and chat with friends, relatives or even business partners. Sometimes they meet to resolve a business problem, or share and exchange some useful information and latest news. What we wanted We wanted to create a cyber-place, where people would
have the same opportunities, even being far away from each other. After weeks and months of intensive work, we came up with a solution, which would help us achieve our goal - an Internet-based IRC (Internet Relay Chat). Then, the first online community of Uzbek people was formed - we called it “Choyhona”. Back then... Choyhona Chat, was first formed on September 16, 1997 and had only one room in the server of Parachat - a web-based chat solution with very limited features. The
first, and the main objective of Choyhona, was to help Umid scholars around the world to communicate. After a couple of months, when the number of Umid scholars visiting Choyhona increased tremendously, we felt a need to improve our chat. The first IRC network was created in the beginning of 1998. It was an NT-based server called “Chatspace”, which had a lot more features and better web-based client. Choyhona started to get popular. If before, we only had Umid scholars in Choyhona, we
suddenly started noticing other Uzbeks around the world, visiting and chatting with Choyhona users. Choyhona became a cyber-community, which served people as the place where they could meet and talk for as much as they wanted - replacing expensive long-distance phone calls. After a couple of months, the number of simultaneous Choyhona users grew to 20-25 people. More features and functions were requested - such as nick registration, memo service, visitors history and more. We understood that
we needed a stable, *nix-based IRC Server, capable of handling more simultaneous users and having the above-listed features. The first dedicated Linux-based Uzbek IRC server (Hybrid) was installed and configured in mid-1998. Since then, many online meetings and important discussions were held in Choyhona - 2 of them with Uzbekistan government officials such as Mr. Rustam Azimov (Former Minister of Finance of Uzbekistan, currently Minister of Microstats of Uzbekistan). For the first time, we
had an opportunity to demonstrate Choyhona as the place, capable of gathering Uzbek people around the world. Choyhona today Today, more than 400 people visit Choyhona daily. Users from more than 30 different countries of the world (excluding CIS) such as: Turkey, Japan, South Africa, New Zealand, China and etc., visit Choyhona to get in touch with their friends, or to get acquainted with Uzbek people. We are not afraid to call it the number one Uzbek chat on the Internet!
Having more than 80 simultaneous users, 3 synchronized servers located in USA and Uzbekistan, web-based clients, and numerous features, Choyhona is also the largest Uzbek chat available today. Who we are Nasim Mansurov, also known as MegaZ
