Mineral Waters

Water resources also include underground waters. Uzbekistan belongs to a set of countries located in an arid zone and so experiences an acute shortage of water. For this reason, the country uses its underground water on a large scale for water supply, irrigation and livestock-breeding.

The Republic is rich in mineral waters which have a healing effect. Among several sources of mineral water prospected during the last several years, waters containing sulphur, iodine and radon have especially high medicinal properties and also alkaline thermal water with a low content of minerals. Many types of mineral waters are used for a balneological purpose.

With regard to its chemical balneological properties, the sulfur water from the Ferghana and Surkhandarya artesian Basins is not judged to be in the least inferior to Caucasian water. Such sanatoria as Chimion and Chartak which were built for mineral water treatment are known far beyond Uzbekistan.
