The Province of Navoi

The Navoi Province has significant natural gas and precious metal resources plus raw materials for constructing. Foreign trade brought in US $497,6 million in 1997. The Province's economy is based on large mining, metallurgical and chemical enterprises. Among them is the Navoi and Zarafshan mining and metallurgical complexes where some of the world's purest gold is produced. The Navoiazot enterprise is one of the country's largest suppliers of mineral fertilizers. There are also factories producing foodstuffs. Growth of the Province's industrial potential should be based on the following: reconstruction, technical modernization and expansion of existing enterprises; establishing new enterprises which will use local raw materials more effectively; investigation and exploitation of mineral and water resources; Leading agricultural products are cotton and Karakul sheep. 90% of the entire area is rich agricultural land.

Projects for agriculture infrastructural development projects stipulate: the use of underground water resources consisting of 3,7 million cubic meters per day and 1,5 million cubic meters per day in dry areas. The project includes the installation of wind-powered facilities, irrigation and pumping stations and the effective use of virgin land; increased Karakul sheep breeding zones; processing and manufacturing of raw cotton, wool, Karakul pelts, silk worm cocoons, leather and different fruits and vegetables; production of butter, sugar, preserved juices and baby food. The Province's investment program consists of 32 projects at an estimated cost of US $712,5 million. There are 3 airports in the province. The total length of roads equals 4,500 km, the total length of tarred roads in this area is 4,100 km.
