Light industry and the production of foodstuffs and construction materials production is regarded as an essential part of the economy of the Province. Industry in the Surkhandarya Province
produces 46 varieties of consumer goods such as coal briquettes, polypropylene products, pharmaceuticals, textiles, furniture, carpets, vegetable oil, canned soft drinks and more. The most
important agricultural industries are cotton growing, sericulture, horiculture and wine growing. The Surkhandarya is the country's largest supplier of thin-fibrous cotton. Wheat, barley,
rice. other cereals are also cultivated in area. The unique climatic conditions of this region make possible to cultivate subtropical crops such as sugarcane. Animal husbandry consists of
Karakul and Gissar sheep breeding. The growth of the Province's industrial potential should be based on the following: the reconstruction and technical upgrading of existing textile
enterprises processing on local materials such as raw cotton, wool. Karakul pelts and silk worm cocoons; creating a complete industrial cycle that includes the process of woof Karakul pelts
and raw leather; reconstructing and modernizing existing foodstuff industries concerned with processing fruit, grapes, vegetables, melons and gourds; introducing new industries such as
confectionery, butter, sugar, margarine and baby food; increasing pharmaceutical production; international tourism development.
