Hello guys,
Am I eligible to use Uzbek driving license in UAE? It seems that its only few countries that are able to use their native license in UAE and these countries are:
Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Kuwait, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Poland, Qatar, Romania, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States.
Now, as far as I'm concerned I have Uzbek international driving license, but some have suggested that I would have to take some (20 at least, to be presice) driving lessons again in order to get UAE license, which pretty much means our license is just a peace of paper that has no use whatsoever.
Your thoughts are appreciated.

yeap Kolobok. our driving license is nothing in there. u only use our license when u are on a tourist/visit visa.
if u hold residence visa, then u need to obtain the uae driving license, in which case u need to take from 20 to 80 hrs driving, then go for a test. the first will automatically be failed. so consider that u will pass it second time.
it will approximately cost about 3000-4000 drhms, and 4-6 months (if there is still a waiting list to start driving).

i recommend u get a International Driver license,
u can get International DL via internet it cos for 3 years about $50,
u have to send ur uzbek DL, and 1 photo, ur sign and payment
that's all they need, and u'll get a new Intl DL about a week

Good day!
Vachach, that's not really encouraging of you, but I suppose that is the sad reality. Thank you.:)
The waiting list is believed to be between 5 to 6 months.
jonik0701, thank you. This sounds like an appropriate and easy solution.
Borzman, k chertu!

International drivers license apparently applies only to those people, who are with tourist visa. Residence visa holders need to get UAE ones in order to be able to drive in region. How credible is this information?

I heard or read somewhere that with a US driving license you don't need to take the test. Does anyone anything like this?

Hi Masud, not really. If you hold US drivers license you also have to be US citizen, otherwise it does not work...apparently. This country is just a joke with its rules and regulations.

yeap. that's correct! international driving license is applicable for tourist/visit visa holders only, and as far as i know it is valid for 1 month. i mean, if u are on a tourist visa, then you can drive with your international driving licence for up to 1 month.

i'm not sure about this yet.
i have friends who are australians, but originally indian/sri-lankans. they just did eye-scan, and got uae driving license straight away.

What do you mean joke? Are they not enforced or impossible to live with?

So basically when you present a DL from US they will ask for your passport? And they wouldn't honor a current US driver's license?

If it is this hard to drive in AE, what about the public transportation?

Hi Vachach, that's very interesting point, thank you. Well, I will try to do the same, as soon as I get my uzbek license converted to international ones.
