Hello guys,
Basically, I've tried to call the Uzbek embassy, but to my "big surprise" it seems nobody either cares to answer the phone or the phone simply does not work.
My passport is expiring in October, yeap turning 25 and I was wondering whether our consulate fulfill their mission of taking care of Uzbek citizens in UAE by changing passports so people like me don't have to travel all the way back to Uzbekistan just to change their passports. I'm planing to go to Argentina in autumn and if I have to go back to Uzbekistan it will simply screw my plans up.

Thanks in advance.
Googler, your response would be much appreciated.

Pasportni almashtirish faqat va faqat Uzbga borib amalga oshadi. Omadla...

Consulate or Embassy in UAE do not renew the passports.
you will need to fly to Motherland :)

i renewed it in May 2008.
so, what i did is that, i went to the consulate and got registered in there. later on, before i left for motherland, i went there and got a paper stating that i'm working in uae in this company and registered in the consulate. paper costs 70 dirhams.
to get registered u will need to take your passport with you when you visit the consulate.

so, came to uzb-n, renewed passport in 1 day, then gave it for OVIR.
it took about 10 days to get approval from SNB, since they are now checking everyone who has lived abroad, especially USA and UK.

before getting your new passport ask them to give you the UAE residence visa page and a paper stating that you were holding the old passport of this number, and the new one is this number.

once you get OVIR, head on to the airport. in the passport control to leave uzb-n you will need to provide them with:
- passport;
- residence visa page from old passport;
- paper from consulate in uae;
- paper from passport-stol, stating that u renewed passport;
- copy of your old passport (the page with photo and names, etc; both english and russian/uzbek pages)

that's it :)

after this they will let you go.
when you arrive into uae, if you have an e-gate, don't use it. go to manual passport-control.
provide them your new passport and the residence visa page from old passport.
they will take the passport and give you a slip. take the slip to HR.

if you arrive into dubai, it will take 2-3 days to get your residence visa reissued onto your new passport. But if you arrive to sharjah, then it will take about 2 weeks (only if your visa was issued in dubai)
so if your visa is issued in sharjah then other way around :)

all the best!

and one more thing.
you are able to renew your passport 6 months before the expiry.
you will need to write "ariza" to the name of the head of whatever ( :D ), stating "due to reason that you are living and working abroad, you ask them to renew your passport ahead of the actual expiry date"

they may play game stating its not allowed, bla-bla-bla... but its all crap :)
you are allowed to renew it six months before :)

Hi,
Just wanted to share my experience with passport renewal and visa transfer since sometime ago I asked your audience for some guidance.
Changing passport took 2 and a half days and transferring OVIR took another day, all in all not bad. Obviously had to "thank" those who managed to get it done. I'm not complaining, I'm thankful for their swift assistance. This part of my journey was not as difficult as I imagined.
When I changed my passport I asked them (department of internal affairs, section of entry-exit and citizenship legalization) to rip my UAE residence visa and OVIR, and hand them back to me with my new passport which they duly obliged. When I picked up my passport they gave me a certificate stating that I indeed changed my passport in accordance with all requirements of Passport System Law of our country.
Then, I had to go to Notary and translate it into English and get it ready for legalization, which apparently takes place in Ministry of Justice. (Why Ministry of Justice needs to approve notary assurance is beyond me,bureaucracy I assumed) it took 24 hours and then I had to visit Ministry of Foreign Affairs the Consular Department, who by the way were very helpful and it took 15 to 20 minutes to get their stamp on my documents. After I got 2 main stamps from Ministry of Justice and MID, all I had to do is I run to UAE Consulate, couple of cool people, one lady and a gentlemen were very professional and told me they would contact me within 24 hours so that I could pick up my documents. Next day they called me at 9am and asked me to pay them a visit and pick up my documents.
Best part of my journey happened today, on my arrival nobody asked for all those documents, apparently all they needed was just that ripped residence visa from my previous passport.
Cheery,
me.

haha... i was reading and wondering, why did you go to MID, MFA and UAE Consulate in Tashkent. you obviously didn't need any of these papers.
as you said, all you need was simply the visa page from your old passport. :)

congrats with successful change!

Yahshi hammasini ot i do qilib yozib beribsiz. Mana man ham pasportimni almashtirishim kerak, 1 yil o'tib ketti, faqat utesheniye uchun so'ravomman :) Ankaradaki yoki İstanbuldaki konsulstvoga borsam 1 yil o'tib ketganligini ko'rib nima deyishar ekan deb so'ramoqchiman, keyin o'zbeistonga borganimdachi, 1 yil o'tib ketgani uchun qancha shtraf to'larnarkin? manimcha 1 yil emas, 2 yil ham o'tib ketadi, chunki shu bilan keyingi yilga boraman Toshkentga. Konsulstvoda bergan spravkasini muddati bor ekanmi, masalna Ankaraga ishim tushganda o'lib qo'ysam bo'larmikin? yoki ketishdan oldin max balki 1 oyga berarmikin?
Toshkentga borganda qonuniy pasport va ovir chiqishi qancha kun?
Shulani o'ylasam ichim siqilib ketadi:rolleyes:

endi Turkiyadegi konsul'larni qanaqaligigayam bog'liq.
Dubaidegilar qizlarni rosa siquv ostiga olishardi agar pasport srogi o'tib ketgan bo'lsa, yoki pasportini yo'qotib qo'ygan bo'lsa. 'sanlar foxishalikka kelgansanlar. kim opkelganini aytmasen hech qanaqa spravka yo'q sanlarga" deb.

hamm masalani konsuldan so'rab bilvoling. Moskvadegi va Londondegilar pasport srogi o'tib ketganlarda uyiga borib kelishiga bemalol spravka berishadi.
