Dear all,

I was wondering how much money do I need to live and support my family in Belgium for a month? I am going to do a research at the university and I have my wife with two little kids to accompany me.

They are offering around 1800 euro/month , I wonder if that would be enough for living?

Thanks and thanks again.

To be short it is more than enough. Depends on what you prefer though.

Thanks. I don't have much preference, just live like a normal student family.
Would u pls tell me how much the housing costs?

Don't you mind if I ask about your research. Are u doing PhD in Belgium? Could you share your scholarship program as I was interested in your monthly grant. Currently I was searching for good PhDs, mainly in Belgium, and your info might be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

are you sure it is enough? a wife and 2 kids, it seems like its going to be a quite a stretch...

skyword, do you get some kind of benifits? like health insurance, dental, etc? how about schooling for kids? do you have to pay for that? just make sure that stuff like that is covered. otherwise it is not worth going there, especially for 1800 and with your family.

Excuse me for the late response.
Housing. Two bedroom apartments with space of +60m2 starts from 550 euro plus energy expenses (another 100 euro). Varies from commune to commune. Ixelles and Etterbeek - communes where Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Universite Libre de Bruxelles are located, are two of the most expensive communes.

Public schools (only French or Dutch though) are free. Partena Family insurance costs 10 euro/month. I think it is quite fair for a small family.
