Troubadours - Trouveres - Minstrels 2 CD


Thomas Binkley was born on 26 December 1931 in Cleveland (Ohio). He studied music and musicology in Colorado and Illinois, and subsequently in Munich. It was there in 1959, that he founded the Studio der Fruhen Musik together with Andrea von Ramm, Sterling Jones and (joining the group in 1969) Richard Levitt. In the rich and fruitful era that followed, the Studio der Fruhen Musik played a pioneering role in broadening public appreciation of the music of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance through concert performances and LP recordings. In 1973 Binkley, assisted by his three Studio colleagues, started a Medieval Music course at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basle. In 1977 he returned to the USA, where in 1979 he became director of the Early Music Institute at Indiana University in Bloomington. His more than 50 LP and CD recordings earned him numerous awards. Thomas Binkley died in Bloomington on 28 April 1995.
